Letter Carving

Carving by hand letters that have been carefully designed and drawn onto stone is a practice almost as old as the alphabet itself.

Recessing meaningful words and symbols into stone connects us in a real way to men and women in millennia past. It’s what we’ve always done to remember and celebrate important moments and those we’ve loved who have passed on.

Steven Fraser works in an old tradition of letter carving, in which the carver designs and either paints or draws the letterforms onto the stone, and then skillfully, with hammer and chisel, carves out the letters.

This technique allows for an intimate collaboration between client and carver.
